In the event that there is a breakdown or failure of the campus telecommunication
system or computer network so that access to the CLASSMATE system
(telecommunication) or the various databases accessible through the
Internet is prevented, please take the following steps:
1. Notify the coordinator of online services so that she or he can
notify the appropriate office about the problem.
2. If the online coordinator is not available when the system failure
is discovered, contact these offices:
a. Network failure: Call Information Systems at ext. 3520 and report
the nature of the problem to the receptionist. If the line is busy,
or you get a recording, leave a voicemail message giving the time
you discovered the problem and describing it the best you can. Consult
with any colleagues present to get a sense of what occurred. Also
send an email message to the address: workmgr.
This message will go to Information Systems too so that they are appraised
of the problem by two means of communication.
b. Telecommunications failure: Call George Wallace, Telecommunications
Systems Analyst, at ext. 2998. Again describe the problem with the
help of colleagues, and the time you called. If the systems analyst
is unavailable, leave a message on voicemail. In addition, call Telecommunications
main number, ext.3975, and leave a similar report.
In both cases of system failure, try first to make contact with a
person at the numbers indicated above. Leave voicemail and email messages
only after exhausting all means to reach a staff person at Information
Systems or Telecommunications. After the appropriate office is contacted,
please record in the steno notebook at the Reference Desk that the
problem has been reported so that staff covering the Reference Desk
later in the day know the situation.
