Marsha Zavar
I. Announcement and General Information Sharing
The search for Assistant Chief of Circulation is on going. Two more
candidates will be coming for interviews next Monday and Tuesday.
Tom reminded everyone that there would be a staff meeting next Wednesday
that would last to noon.
In order to make reference service more meaningful and productive,
the reference staff decided to change the location and appearance
of the reference desk. We decided to move the reference desk closer
to the circulation desk, and the Web workstations closer to the CONSORT
terminals. We will also move the index tables out of the reference
area. Carol Holliger, Marsha and Paul volunteered to look into a new
reference desk. They are still in the process of finding a reference
desk that will cost no more than $3000. A short-tern solution will
be to move the existing reference desk, and this will be done in coordination
with B&G and Info Sys.
Bernard voiced his concerns about moving the reference desk. He thinks
that it is a good time now for us to make permanent and global changes,
to talk about how we want the whole reference area to look like, and
how to best arrange things in this area.
Hamilton-Williams reference assistance starts on Oct. 3. Reference
assistance is offered between 11:30 and 1:00 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

V. Area Reports
A. AV: Chuck hired 5 new students, and is in the process of training
them. The Media Software Catalog has been updated and will be out
soon.
B. Circulation: Bernard has hired 20 new students, and he is in the
process of training them.
C. Government Documents: All four of Joy's students have returned
to work.
D. ILL/PS: Marsha has hired 3 students, but is not sure if the 3rd
one will work out.
E. Music: Carol Ha. has hired only 9 student workers, and still has
some gaps in coverage. She is also looking for a new vendor for recording
purchases.
F. Biology: There is no room for journals. Need to move another year's
worth of journals to Beeghly.
G. Science: Deb is very busy. She needs to hire more students.
H. CRC: Kim is doing very well. Judy continues to catalog CRC materials.
V. Tech Services:
Carol Ho thanked people for their help with the Dewey project. She
informed everyone that the Periodicals Desk would be fully staffed
until midnight, except Fridays and Saturdays. She is still in the
process of updating the Periodicals Union List, and she won't be able
to finish it until early October.
VI. Other Concerns:
The next PS meeting will be held on Oct. 13, 2000 at 9:00 a.m.
