Links for the study of Latin and Medieval Latin

  • Georgetown Unverstiy Medieval Latin Course with links, syllabus, and resources: This is the syllabus, required readings, and background for Introduction to Medieval Latin, a course at Georgetown University.  It gives a very good definition of Medieval Latin and explains the uses and importance of Latin in the Middle Ages.  Links to Latin resources on the web are also provided, including Bibles in Latin, French, and German,  grammar aids, lexical aids, the Labyrinth Latin Library, and literary works such as the Letters of Abelard and Heloise
  • Latin culture resources: This page of the Labyrinth database provides links to resources for various dimensions of studying Latin.  These include articles on Latin texts and culture, language study resources and reference tools, teaching resources, the Bryn Mawr classical and medieval reviews, and the Vatican library.
  • Allen and Greenough Latin Grammar on Perseus database: This is a very extensive web version of Allen and Greenough’s Latin Grammar.  Divided into three parts (words and forms, syntax, and prosody), the site includes information on the Latin alphabet, parts of speech, grammatical forms, syntax, meter and form.  Medieval Women Writers features direct links to sections of the Allen and Greenough site that deal with particular grammar problems presented in the readings.
